Upcoming EventsCrossing Boundaries: Governing Transportation in the Toronto City Region
Date: Wednesday May 2nd, 2012 SPEAKERSScott Sams CONTACT INFODESCRIPTIONAuthority over transportation is diffused horizontally and vertically among orders of government, and calls for private sector involvement are increasingly being heard. Achieving coordination becomes more complicated as the city region expands, the number of actors in it increases, and the authority of government ebbs. Poorly coordinated transportation is perceived as a cause of an array of economic, social and environmental challenges, and has contributed to calls for consolidation under a single authority. Scott Sams will discuss whether an effective, accountable, and coordinated transportation system can be achieved without resorting to the temptation to centralize our public organizations.
