October 20, 2017

Congratulations to Alexis M. Lerner who has won the Kornberg-Jezierski Family Memorial Essay Prize in Holocaust Studies. Alexis is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science and at the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto. She is currently a 2017-2018 Visiting Scholar at Columbia University’s Harriman Institute. Alexis also serves as the Director of Research for the Stanford University US-Russia Forum.

The Kornberg-Jezierski Family Memorial Essay Prize in Holocaust Studies was established by Professor Jacques Kornberg to be awarded to an outstanding student essay (undergraduate or graduate) in Holocaust Studies written for a U of T course or under a U of T faculty member’s supervision.

Alexis said of her award: “The paper bridges Political Science methods and Holocaust testimonial archives and is something that I wrote at U of T as a requirement for my collaborative degree in Jewish Studies and Political Science. Many faculty from both disciplines helped me to design the project including Doris Bergen and Anna Shternshis from CJS (Centre for Jewish Studies) and Kenichi Ariga and Shivaji Mukherjee from Political Science.”
