Humanitarianism ‘not a new concern’ according to Wong

Political Scientist and Director of the University of Toronto’s Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice Wendy Wong recently spoke to U of T News about the prevalence of humanitarianism both in the news and as the increasing focus of academic conferences. According to Wong, humanitarianism is not a new concern for the world community. “If we look back in history, we’ve had lots of humanitarian crises. So is this (Syria) any more important than Ethiopia in the 1980’s or Biafra before that?” The difference she said lies in our access to information. The full article is available here.
