Melissa Williams takes on additional role in Faculty of Arts and Science

Professor Melissa Williams, who has a long-standing interest in Indigenous issues, will be taking on the role of Special Rapporteur on Aboriginal Studies and Opportunities in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Professor Williams has a long-standing interest in Indigenous issues and she has written several articles on the rights of Indigenous peoples, including “Sharing the River: Aboriginal Representation in Canadian Political Institutions,” “Criminal Justice, Democratic Fairness, and Cultural Pluralism: The Case of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada,” and “Political Responsibility for Decolonization in Canada.” She is currently working on a book project on Anishinabek constitutionalism in collaboration with the Anishinabek Nation.

As Special Rapporteur, Melissa will be responsible for consulting with faculty, staff, and students in the Centre for Aboriginal Initiatives, the Aboriginal Studies Program and other relevant units to help frame a plan to support the future development of teaching, research, and community relations.
