The Noah Blackstein and Michael Donnelly Graduate Fellowships in Political Economy

September 23, 2013

As a result of two generous gifts to the department by former student Noah Blackstein, two new graduate fellowships have been created. The Noah Blackstein and the Michael Donnelly Graduate Fellowships will be awarded to PhD students engaged in the study of political economy. Mr. Blackstein donated these gifts because, as he said, his experience and education in the department gave him a strong foundation for leadership in his industry. It was his relationship with Professor Michael Donnelly that proved to be a turning-point in his studies, although he also named Professors Rob Vipond and Louis Pauly as important mentors in the department. Notably, it was one of the departmental Leadership Luncheons led by Rob Vipond that renewed the connections between the department and Mr. Blackstein. In recognition of this generous contribution, Professor Louis Pauly held a dinner on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Massey College. In attendance were a number of faculty, alumni and graduate students as well as Noah and his wife Wendy. The Michael Donnelly Fellowship was announced during the dinner and came as a wonderful surprise to Professor Donnelly. The department sincerely thanks Noah Blackstein, Michael Donnelly and Rob Vipond.
